Bringing hope and warmth to cities in South Africa

The Winter HOPE drive encourages everyone to collect warm winter clothes, blankets and non-perishable food items for distribution to people in need during the cold winter months. Last year more than 4 400 blankets and just over 2 000 beanies were collected via the Winter HOPE drive. Approximately 7 000 shopping bags with clothing items and non-perishables were gathered, and more than a 1 000 people were provided with shelter during the campaign.

Winter HOPE is a partnership of giving, which has grown in reach and influence over the past 19 years. This year’s partners comprise a national footprint of organisations, which is led by MES (Johannesburg, Kempton Park, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town), PEN (Pretoria), Towers of Hope (Bloemfontein) and the Denis Hurley Centre (Durban).

Everyone is welcome to get involved in Winter HOPE – to help give hope, and bring warmth to those who need it most. Drop-off points have been setup for easy access in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein, as well as smaller towns in the outlying districts. Cash donations are also welcome and can be made by either Snapscan, EFT or PayFast through the Winter HOPE website, or directly into the following account: WINTERHOOP, ABSA branch number 632005. Savings account number 906 892 5251 (18-A tax benefit certificates can be issued as required)

Reflecting on our Journey

The Winter HOPE campaign touched the hearts of many people in 2018.

Thank you for your contribution in making winter more bearable for the less fortunate.

However, this would not have been possible without God’s active involvement and blessings and we praise Him for His mercy and love.

Stories of Hope

Winterhoop

'ABC' (Amanzimtoti Baptist Church) is one of the 28 churches that are drop-off points for Winter HOPE in the Durban/Pietermaritzburg areas this year. Here members of the congregation are collecting and sorting goods to give 'hope to the poor' this winter. Many thanks to Loraine Muller, Ivan Haylock and their team.

We urge people of faith from across the area to find a drop-off point near them and give clean, warm second-hand clothes, blankets, scarves and beanies, and non-perishable food before the end of June.

See the website www.winterhoop.org for a drop-off point near you across the country. For more information: 011 725 0001 or winterhoop@mes.org.za

Winterhoop

It is winter and very cold in Bloemfontein... Earlier this week we were able to hand out 66 blankets at our daily soup kitchen with funds donated by an anonymous donor. However, as the winter is starting to flex its "icy fingers", we and other organizations like us, urgently need more blankets, warm clothing and hot meals. Thank you for partnering with us! ...
